Seniors Action Quebec to Highlight Challenges of Frontline Community Workers in Year Two

Published on November 19, 2021

Seniors Action Quebec (SAQ) was created in 2007 in response to the findings of a province-wide government-mandated consultation on "The Living Conditions of Quebec Seniors". This consultation revealed some deep issues faced by English-speaking seniors in Quebec, not the least of which was “A sense of not belonging, nor feeling welcome in their home province - especially in the last 30 years.” (SAQ - Our History).

In the first year of the COM-Unity project, SAQ created a series of videos entitled Je me Souviens: Portraits of Who We Are. They feature the stories of English-speaking seniors in Quebec who have witnessed our province’s recent history and have been a crucial part of the development of our culture and community. Watch and listen to the stories of our older community members as they talk about what it means to them to be a Quebecer, and why they have chosen to call this province home.

For the second phase of the COM-Unity project, Seniors Action Quebec plans to produce a series of videos showcasing English-speaking community organizations across the regions of Quebec, who work directly with seniors, and highlight the specific challenges and difficulties they face while working to support their community. By sharing the stories of these front-line community workers, we can gain insight into how to support seniors, how to work with them to foster a sense of belonging and how to win the battle against isolation.
